The Courthouse 100 committee invites the public to mark the 100th anniversary of the dedication of the Greene County courthouse Friday, Oct. 27, with a program reminiscent of the ceremony held exactly 100 years earlier.
The committee will start the day hosting Java and Juice at 9:30 am in the rotunda. Tours of the building will be available during the day with docents at each office.
The program will begin at 2 pm as it did in 1917. Weather permitting, state and local officials will address the audience from the second floor balcony on the south side of the courthouse.
“There were 10,000 people at the dedication in 1917,” said Don Van Gilder, chair of the Courthouse 100 committee. “We know we won’t have that many people, but we hope people will start making plans now to be at the festivities or visit the courthouse that day.”
A reprint of the original program will be available at the centennial event as a souvenir.
